About the Scholarship
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a highly competitive, merit-based award that enables outstanding postgraduate students from outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Established in 2000 through a donation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the scholarship aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
• Must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential degrees at the University of Cambridge:
• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
• Master of Science (MSc)
• Master of Letters (MLitt)
• Other one-year postgraduate courses (e.g., LLM, MRes, MASt)
• Demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability.
• Show a commitment to improving the lives of others.
• Exhibit leadership potential.
• Have a strong academic record and a clear rationale for choosing the course.
Scholarship Benefits
• Full coverage of University and College fees.
• A maintenance allowance for living costs.
• One economy class airfare at both the beginning and end of the course.
• Inbound visa costs and the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge.
• A family allowance (if applicable).
• Additional discretionary funding may be available for academic development and research activities.
